A to B 30 – June 2002, Heinzmann, Brompton Gears

£1.29

With the launch of the Brompton 6-speed (actually a 2 x 3-spd) we thought the time was right to put all the different options together, and much of this information is still just as valid today. The other fascinating article that does look out of date now, but it’s still interesting, is the Heinzmann motor on the Cresswell Fold-it, both options very much of their time

  • The Trial: Heinzmann/Fold-it
    (A to B APPROVED)
  • Pivot Points: Brompton Gear Options
    (A to B APPROVED)

June 2002. Lots of interesting little snippets in this issue, but the two biggest items have lasted particularly well. With the launch of the new 6-speed, we took the opportunity to list all the Brompton gearing options, and there were (and still are) a surprising number. Heinzmann was a German engineering company that launched a power-assist kit, and we decided to put one on the Fold-it, as Jane had been using it to tow Alexander’s trailer to school, several miles out of town, and 150 feet higher. It did a great job, and revolutionised our trailer haulage for several years. Not fast by modern standards, and with a modest range, but a revelation for that sort of duty
