Children's Church Organ Concert in Dorchester, Dorset

Pipe Up! is a series of Saturday morning workshops started in 2008 by the diocese of Salisbury to encourage young people to take up the organ. The next concert will be held at 11 am on Saturday 4th April 2009, featuring performances by the young musicians. The concert will be hosted by tutor Dr Richard Godfrey, who will bring the morning to the traditional rousing conclusion! The organ at St Mary's church, Edward Road, Dorchester was built in 1974 by Peter Collins, one of the most distinguished builders of the modern era. One of his earliest commissions, the orgen has three manuals, 34 stops and a total of some 2000 pipes. Built along classical lines, with North German influence, the orgen is considered an eccellent teaching instrument, with a good mechanical action, space around the players, and pipes that speak with great clarity. It is one of the finest church organs in Dorset and has been played by several eminent international recitalists. Entrance free - For further details telephone 01305 259998 or e-mail A to B
