A to B Profile - John McNaught

NAME: John McNaught
AGE: 37
STATUS: Artist, but has contributed an article.
SPECIALIST SUBJECT: Linocut and hand printing.
BACKGROUND: Portree High School on the Isle of Skye, then Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen to study printmaking, graduated in 1988. Now lives in Cromarty, where he has a studio.
TRANSPORT: Rides two Bike Fridays - a Pocket Rocket and a Llama, while partner Gillian has a New World Tourist. They pull baby Finlay in a Burley trailer. John also takes a bike maintenance class for adults in Cromarty.
OTHER WORK/INTERESTS:
John works part-time for Highland
Council as an Arts Project Worker (a way of avoiding admitting that
they employ an artist), where he carries out a community-based public
art programme in Ross & Cromarty. The rest of the time he is
freelance, producing his own work, or taking on a variety of
commissions on almost any subject. Work is usually figurative,
sometimes political and with a caustic humour.
In the last elections for Westminster and Edinburgh, John voted for
the Scottish Socialist Party, although is not sure why - possibly
because he liked Tommy Sheridan's sharp dress sense. And that's as
good a reason as any.
John is also mildly obsessed with the beautiful game, with a leaning
for Glasgow Celtic, and has followed Neighbours from the very first
episode.
