Thinking of subscribing, but unsure? Here is a recent letter:
"Please find
enclosed my subscription for the next 24 months to your
excellent magazine. I encountered A to
B at a very opportune moment. In January 2004 I had been
diagnosed with a form of epilepsy, resulting in my having to
surrender my driving licence. When you have been reliant on
a car without really thinking seriously about alternatives,
this can come as a bit of a shock. Now, a year on, I realize
that it is the best thing that could have
happened. I dug out my
bicycles and investigated the public transport options.
Travelling into Bristol with a fold ing bike has now been
complemented by my keeping an inexpensive 'cumbersome' bike
at Bristol Temple Meads railway station. The rush-hour
trains are now so crowded, it is sometimes better not to
travel with the folder. I started
subscribing to A to B a year ago, and it has been very
supportive. The general slant of the magazine I find very
agreeable, and your low impact holiday reports made my wife
and I choose to make a cycle tour of the Vale of Evesham
last year. This year it will be train to Ipswich and then
round Suffolk. Two weeks ago it
dawned on me what it was all about. I had to get to Swindon
on a Sunday morning and was cycling on the cycle path to
Bath station to pick up a suitable train. I remember looking
at my watch and thinking, with some irritation, that it was
going to take me twice as long as it would by car. But hey,
I was enjoying the ride, and it was a clear cold morning
with much wildlife to see. Then, when I got to the station,
I met a friend, and we shared a coffee before catching our
respective trains. Travelling this way, I had made the
journey part of the day, rather than just a means of getting
somewhere. Thank you once
again. Your magazine is inspirational. The proof of the
pudding is that, even when I can drive again, I will choose
not to do so. You have played a big part in helping me to
come to this decision." Tony Iveson

These are the reader's comments relating to issue 46, guaranteed uncensored, even the less complimentary ones (February 2005):
Hope in a hopeless
world
Perfectly pitched. All articles are of interest - my favourite
magazine
Attitude, wit, philosophy, ethos, technical research. Superb
Comprehensive articles and good standards
A unique slant on environmental transport
Essential reading, even for someone who would never think of wielding
a spanner!
Always an engrossing read, even the 'techie' bits
Love it - why not increase subscription rates?
Enjoy the whole mag, but nice to have more on European travel
Would long to hear more on touring by rail/bus/folding bike
I enjoy reading about folding electric cycles
I love it
Most commuting cyclists ride MTBs - let's have more on making
non-folders into good commuters
One of the few magazines I read cover to cover
Too short! I read it on the day it arrives
Too anti-car. Preaching to the converted does not achieve results.
Compromise, steady change and pursuasion does
Don't change a winning format and formula
Axe the Mole? Don't even think about it!
No papers, no magazines, no telly, no drugs, no booze. One of the few
magazines I read cover to cover . All I need is A to B
If I could only read one magazine, it would be A to B
I just wish it was longer
I go back to The Folder issue 14 - 'nuff said!
Wacky and best value on the planet
Odd, but curiously satisfying
